I was trying to demonstrate to someone how to cut out objects in Corel PhotoPaint, and then this just… kinda happened. :-D

(Will probably be a tad funnier if you've seen SyFy's Dominion...)

Random silliness )

PS: I've also recently written a shitload of Dominion fanfic. Feels good to be back in the writing game, and the fandom is super fun because the show's creator proactively interacts with the fans in a way I've never seen before. I've made quite a few new online friends. It's been very rewarding. Now all we need is for SyFy to announce renewal. Might be touch and go, but it's hard to say. I'll be so pissed if the show gets canned.

Because I'm currently listening to Ready Player One by Ernie Cline, read by Wil Wheaton, which is all kinds of geeky and awesome, I shall help promote Don't Be A Dick Day. I did comply. I hope.

Carry on. )

Sometimes there are TV shows I watch where I ask myself afterwards why I kept watching them, because all rational thought defies the notion. One of them is SyFy's Helix -- a scientific fail-fest on so many levels.

<insert terrible elevator music> )

Cause, seriously, if you like wacky weird shit that’ll constantly boggle your mind (and/or Martin Freeman being awesomely badass in a wifebeater), I can only recommend that you watch the new movie-turned-TV show rendition of the 1996 film.

The pilot premiered yesterday on FX. Apparently there's nine more episodes in season 1.

'Nuff said. )

Just in case anyone's been wondering where I've been in the past two weeks, my life has been taken over by... this.

And this and this and this. It's been crazy, but it's also been amazing to see our rather small fandom come so far.

I know most of you f-listies don't watch the show, but if you know anyone who does, a little promotion would be much appreciated. We're getting close to having enough money to send the 1,000 bandanas we were aiming at. We just need that last little boost for the fundraiser campaign. So please spread the word if you can.

Probably best to use one of the banners: No. 1 and No. 2. Or just advertise www.savebombgirls.com.

Thank you!

Now back to campaigning. How did I end up running two project management jobs for the price salary of one??

I suppose this is a entry mostly addressed to my fic-writing friends. I'm in a bit of a dilemma, and maybe you guys have some helpful feedback for me. So I'm writing this story right now. I kinda doubt (m)any of you will know the fandom. Yet another obscure Canadian TV show from a few years ago with pretty much zero fandom. It's called Whistler (yes, after the skiing resort in BC). But that's actually only circumstantial.

Most of you know me as being partial to whumpy scenarios. And this is kind of a whumpy problem. The show actually did the whumping for me, cause the series ended on a huge cliffhanger for the pairing I'm writing for. A truck plowed into their car, and we don't find out what happened after that. But that's actually also circumstantial.

What I'm struggling with is the damn hospital conversation, in particular the one after character x wakes up from three days of unconsciousness. I've already given my best to forego the much cliched character-wakes-up-to-find-lover-by-bedside scenario by having character x wake up while character y isn't there, but she of course goes there after the hospital calls to say character x has regained consciousness. Cue awkward conversation with character x loaded to the gills with sedatives and pain meds.

You know, it's not so much that I don't think I can write it. It's more that I've already written it too often, for other fandoms (i.e. White Collar). And I just feel like I'm repeating myself a hundred times over, and I'm bored with it and frustrated with myself over it. Sure, I could just skip that part and move on a week or so, but that'd feel like a cop-out.

It always annoys me that on most TV shows, when a character wakes up after serious trauma, they're immediately fully alert, they don't seem to be in any pain, and they can hold a perfectly lucid and long conversation. Yeah, not exactly real life, people, right? But the thing is that real life is often not very good drama, which I'm pretty sure is why the TV shows tend to gloss over that part. My problem is that I want to write realistically, but I also want to write halfway interesting drama. And finding a middle ground there is so very difficult.

So, what are your experiences? Any helpful hints you might have for me? Anyone wanna write the scene for me? ;-)

[livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan pointed me to the Snowflake Challenge, which I think is a lovely way to start off 2013 with. So here goes:

Snowflake Challenge - Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This is almost freaky. I wrapped up a ReGenesis fan fiction recently (not beta’ed or posted yet) that’s about a flu outbreak and its connection to a (fictitious) anti-flu medication that I called Rivira (active ingredient tadalivir), and that I postulated would be a standard flu treatment like Tamiflu.

Here's where it gets weird. )

Because...

LJ_NewFriendsPage

I'm dreading the day when they're gonna force us the use the new layout. I  mean, WTF is the point of offering the option of custom journal layouts, when you can't use your layout on the one page you use the most in your journal? Because I read all my friends' posts on my Friends page, and not as e-mails or LJ notifications. And I like the way they display in my own layout, thank you very much.

*sigh*

At this rate, I'm gonna quit my paid account and move over to Dreamwidth after all.

PS: More negativity. I know. Sorry. Just feels like that kind of week.

In a theatre play in Recklinghausen. It was fantastic, and just a little surreal. And now I have to go grocery shopping, which feels way too mundane in the wake of today's events. Still, life is more fun when there is bread on the table and edibles in the fridge. I think I need to cave to mundaneness.

Well, possibly... Cause I'm not a clairvoyant, but I just quickly need to shout it out:

OMG, GUYS, PETER OUTERBRIDGE IS GONNA BE ON SUITS!!!!

Sorry. I'm just really excited. It's just a guest role, probably a one episode gig. But I'm still excited! I love Suits. And I needed to share that. Can you tell I'm excited? ;-)

Season 2 premieres June 14 on USA Network. And, yay, Peter Outerbridge!!!

I already did this last year, but it bears annual repeating. May 10 is World Lupus Day. And I think it's only appropriate to spread the word.

Lucy wasn't only in the sky with diamonds, she also had lupus. )

... and this will probably only mean something to you if you've seen ReGenesis, but I didn't want to withhold from you that thing that translated from my brain to my mouse hand the other night.

And then the sequence gel revealed... )

Haven't done one of these in a while, so here's a photo of my friend's lovely and slightly crazy cat Charlie, taken yesterday.

Why SOPA is dangerous
To Sum Up
SOPA:
  • Gives the government the right to unilaterally censor foreign websites.
  • Gives copyright holders the right to issue economic takedowns and bring lawsuits against website owners and operators, if those websites have features that make it possible to post infringing content. [A comment feature is enough.]
  • Makes it a felony offense to post a copyrighted song or video.

This bill turns us all into criminals. If it passes, then you either stop using the Internet, or you simply hope that you never end up in the crosshairs, because if you’re targeted, you will be destroyed by this bill. You don’t have to be a big, mean, nasty criminal — common Internet usage is effectively criminalized under this law. This bill will kill American innovation and development of the Internet, as it will become too risky to do anything of value. It is toxic and dangerous, and should not, under any circumstances, be supported.

And I'm gonna be the only one around here squeeing about it, but I don't care.

The 10th Anniversary ACTRA Awards
Nominees for Outstanding Performance – Male:
Shawn Doyle (John A: Birth of a Country)
Peter Outerbridge (John A: Birth of a Country)

And well deserved, because I've seen the film, and both were fantastic in it. So there. Fingers crossed.
