White Collar - 5x06 Ice Breaker
Nov. 25th, 2013 09:10 pmI am seriously considering to shelf White Collar and stop watching it. Cause it's messing with my bullshit meter in ways that are difficult to tolerate.
See, I like my TV shows to be at least rooted in reality. Few TV shows are ever truly realistic, and I acknowledge that. But most that aren't sitcoms or soap operas at least try to do their best, and mostly even succeed. Yes, quite obviously White Collar has always strayed from the concept of trying to be as realistic as possible, and I've been able to overlook it in favour of such things as Neal/Peter bromance, Mozzie shenanigans or Caffrey capers.
But lately... Lately they're just delving into the pathetic. I feel insulted as a viewer. Cause they honestly want to make us believe that Peter can fool a Russian ice skating aficionado into thinking Peter's a professional skating coach by looking at ice skating commentaries for a few hours the night before? Pssshh, get outta here! That's beyond ridiculous.
Not to mention the whole Chapter 13 thing. Neal's heists used to be fun to watch. Now I just cringe because it's just so damn obvious that it'd never work in the real world. Not even if all security guards closed both eyes and clutched their hands to their ears.
Seriously, my interest is dwindling to a trickle. Not even the Bomer can save season 5. Not to jinx it or anything, but if you asked me, news of cancellation would come as a relief rather than a disappointment. Cause for some reason, I just can't stop watching altogether. There's that little bit of loyalty left to a fandom that I had a blast with for a certain amount of time. And that's not something that I'm gonna cast aside easily. But, man, Eastin and his crew aren't making it easy.
Let me add that, if you want to watch a show about undercover crime solving that is captivating and engaging, I can highly recommend Played. Unfortunately it's currently only airing in Canada (on CTV), but hopefully one of the American networks will discover its value and buy the US broadcasting rights before long. It takes a special kind of show that's making me want to write fan fiction after just seven or eight episodes.
