I'm getting too old for this...
Jun. 16th, 2013 10:23 amIt's been a while that I've posted here, and I apologize. I keep complaining about people not blogging anymore, and instead wandering off to the more shallow things like Facebook and Twitter and Tumblr and such. I'm a bloody hypocrite, because I'm doing that myself. However, I think my motivation for that may just be the fact that none of the fandoms I currently follow are active on LJ, but are very active on all the other sites I mentioned. So what's the use in posting on LJ about them, when no one reads it or interacts there, right?
But anyway, I need to rant. Be warned.
I have a love/hate relationship with Tumblr. I really do. A lot fandom people post great things there. Lovely images, fanart, reviews, recaps, even fan fictions. But Tumblr is just so effin' useless when it comes to interaction. If I wanna comment on a blog post, I need to reblog it in my own blog for everyone following me to see? How stupid is that? And then you get the thousand quote indents if it goes back and forth. I hate that!
No offense, and I know there are exceptions, but the Tumblr clientele seems to be mostly girls under 20 who care solely about ships and OTPs. How often have I read things like, "If you don't ship x/y, we can't be friends," or "I don't know who to ship, so I'll just ship everyone." (Not to mention intelligent things like, "It's a show about WW II and OMG I love it cause the 1950's were so cool!") Since when do TV shows have to get reduced only to the ships? Can't a TV show be worth watching for all the characters and/or the storylines? Did I miss a trend somewhere? Am I too old for this?
I mean, of course I get it that everyone has favorite characters, and that it's more fun if a romantic relationship between characters you like is in the mix. But, come on, there are TV shows I adore where there's no canon or non-canon OTP. Is that an old-fashioned view on things, or am I just following the wrong fandoms?

Date: 2013-06-17 08:16 pm (UTC)I wish good old, more substantial blogging would come back into fashion and LJ wouldn't keep making changes that just simply suck ass. That would make things so much easier.

Date: 2013-06-18 09:55 pm (UTC)Twitter is nice for quick reactions but not for anything that goes beyond "Awesome" and "It sucks". Facebook has the most promise but it has the problem of privacy and tracking and since I try to keep my fandom and real life relatively apart I don't really use it that way. Google+ is actually nicer because the circles let you partition what you share with who but it's much more male/tech oriented - nice for tracking cool science stuff then fandom.
I also probably show my age when I say I miss the time when message boards where the thing.
