[livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan pointed me to the Snowflake Challenge, which I think is a lovely way to start off 2013 with. So here goes:

Snowflake Challenge - Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Seeing how I've received a good amount of feedback on all my White Collar stories (which I'm very grateful for), I'd really like to concentrate on the more obscure fandoms I've written for in the last year or two.

1) Fanfic: ReGenesis - Picking Up The Pieces
This show took me by storm at the end of 2011, but by that time it had already been off the air for a few years. The fandom is pretty much dead, and there was little fan fiction to begin with. Still, that didn't keep me from writing my own. Of course, and very predictably, I had to go with an intensely angsty scenario. Just can't help it.

2) Fanfic: Bomb Girls - Don't You Come Undone
This is my newest fandom, and a small but loyal one. And a very fun one, especially since TPTB are taking an active interest by personally getting in touch with the fans. I will admit that it would have completely flown under my radar, hadn't Peter Outerbridge been in it, but I'm so glad I gave it a shot, because I fell in love with it very quickly. I must be one of the maximum of two Bob/Lorna shippers out there, but I understand, seeing how Bob isn't exactly a likeable guy. Plus, the predominant OTP in this fandom is Betty/Kate. Still, I'm really excited for season two, which actually premieres tomorrow.

3) Fanfic: James Cameron's AVATAR - Only Human?
Do you know the feeling of going back to an old story you wrote, and upon re-reading it, you don't recall ever having written all of that? This is what happened the other day, because after about a year or so, I decided to rewatch AVATAR. And I was completely mesmerized by it and sucked into its universe again (and, yes, for the record we shall state that the movie's overall rather predictable storyline is not one of its strengths). I was fascinated by Pandora and its characters all over again, so I went back to the fanfics I had written. And upon re-reading this one, I was struck again by how much I wanted the movie to have explored more of the human side of things. So this was a nice trip down memory lane for me.

So there's my pick of three stories. It's okay to brag a little, right? Because if it is, maybe I could add that one of fanish things I accomplished in 2012 that I'm most proud of is the Peter Outerbridge fansite I conjured up completely from scratch.

And here's to 2013, and lots more fanwork shenanigans!

Just be mindful that there's actually two different Murdoch Mysteries incarnations out there -- both Canadian. The one I'm talking about (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386955/) is the one from 2004, with Peter Outerbridge as Detective Murdoch. Unfortunately, they only adapted the first three of Maureen Jennings' books. The way the third episode ended, somehow it seemed as if they were planning to produce more, but they never did. :-\

These three episodes are all 90 minutes long, but there's now also another 45-minute episode periodical version (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1091909/) out there that has multiple seasons with Yannick Bisson playing Detective Murdoch.

I haven't actually seen the one with Yannick Bisson, but what I've heard from others, they usually favor the Outerbridge version. I looked at a few clips on YouTube of the newer version, and somehow that one felt a lot less authentic and more, shall we say, adapted for the broader masses. However, as Outerbridge fan, I'm surely biased, and the YouTube clips might not have been representative, so don't take my word for it, okay? :-)
