... there comes 'Checkmate'. I'm talking about White Collar. So, yeah, I just watched it. And I liked it. A lot. Not super squee material, cause I thought the episode had a few problems, but I'm actually really happy with it. I'm gonna have to write a more composed review at some point, but before I went into the episode, I had a certain kind of dready expectation. Or, well, let's say I didn't know at all what to expect, but was fully prepared to be disappointed. Which I wasn't. So: Yay! \o/
And that's all I'm gonna say for now. Stay tuned for something more coherent in a few days.
I think I'm gonna go watch a really bad Peter Outerbridge movie now (i.e. Population 436). Why oh why do I do this to myself? *sigh*

Date: 2012-01-18 10:09 pm (UTC)It is? Personally, I think it's rather freaky and disconcerting. :-P But I regret nothing, so...
But, you know, sometimes you're actually positively surprised, because Population 436 wasn't half bad. Not a masterpiece, but also not as trashy as I thought it would be. It was actually watchable. (Yay!) Though for a POB fan kind of a waste of energy. He had a handful of super-short scenes and barely more than ten lines. And he died there at the end at the hands of Fred Durst. (I hope you don't mind the spoiler, but I figured you wouldn't want to watch this one, would you?)
There's been more positive surprises during my Let's-Try-To-Watch-Anything-He's-Done-In-Recent-Years spree. The TV movie John A: Birth Of A Country was wonderful, and the indie Ill Fated was so bizarre that it was a hoot to watch. He's also currently starring in a Canadian six-part mini series called Bomb Girls that's fantastic and that I'm devouring as it airs (new episode tonight!). But of course then there's cheap crap like Reviving Ophelia or Heartland that makes you groan as you self-reflect to cancel that out. But, hey, I'm enjoying the hell out of all this, so it's all good. :-)

Date: 2012-01-18 10:12 pm (UTC)I've heard good things about 'John A', must get round to it. Isn't Heartland the one about the horses? *shudder* My Canadian housemate made me watch a lot of that.

Date: 2012-01-18 10:22 pm (UTC)So, yeah, I will highly recommend it, but with the disclaimer that you'll probably get more out of it if you know a little bit of Canadian history. Which of course I didn't, being German and all, so I read up on it on Wikipedia before I went in. Helped me a lot to understand a little more of the political intricacies.
Yes, Heartland is Beverly Hills, 90210 with horses. The shudders of doom are still running down my spine as well. POB did a great job with his role, but the rest was just terrible. And he didn't exactly play an amiable character, so... I feel sorry you had to go through more than one episode of it.

Date: 2012-01-18 10:34 pm (UTC)Oh, and visually, John A wasn't all that appealing either. Cause... 1860's fluffy sideburns all the way, baby! :-P

Date: 2012-01-18 10:38 pm (UTC)Hmm, scruffy beards and sideburns... Yeah, no.

Date: 2012-01-18 10:11 pm (UTC)I'm so tempted to get at least a few episodes off iTunes to watch. But I know if I get one, I'll want them ALLLL. *grabby hands* And I don't just want digital copies, so then I'd wind up buying it twice.
But, I love hearing all excitement. XD

Date: 2012-01-29 01:49 pm (UTC)Haha, Original Trek, yep. Even though I consider myself a Trekkie, I haven't actually seen much TOS (The Original Series). I'm more of a Trekker of the 90's and beyond.
