The rain clouds gathering in the distance looked menacing. A storm was brewing, Neal could already see the lightning flashing from the dark clouds that hung over New York, could hear the thunder rumbling forebodingly. A low growl that inched closer in waves.
Soon the thick droplets of rain would be pelting down on the rooftop terrace where he was currently standing, and he wasn't sure if he would let them usher him inside.
He watched with morbid fascination as the wall of clouds advanced across the sky, and a sudden gust of wind whipped through his hair. He didn't bother smoothing it back in place.
It was useless. Just as everything else was useless in his life right now. Yes, he still went through the motions. Their clearance rate was just as good as ever. But it hadn't been the same since Keller had kidnapped Elizabeth.
Neal didn't want to go back to those horrible few days of fear and dread and uncertainty. In the end, they had gotten Elizabeth back, no one had gotten seriously hurt, and Peter had forgiven him. But there was one thing that Neal was struggling with to this day. He hadn't forgiven himself.

Date: 2011-08-13 11:00 pm (UTC)Just read "Maybe", and it leaves me strangely unfulfilled. Is there going to be a second chapter? Because, damn, you can't leave it at that! (Didn't you say two-shot?)
I do read a lot on FFN, btw. I'm just not good with leaving reviews there most of the time...
