Title: Through The Haze
Author: TeeJay
[livejournal.com profile] whitecollar100 Prompt: #53 Heat
Genre: Gen
Characters/Pairings:  Neal, Peter
Word Count: 200
Rating: PG-13
Summary: An involuntary sound that was between a moan and a word left his lips, and immediately he heard his name being said. "Neal? Neal, you with us?"
Author's Note: Further continuation of my previous stories, "And Isn't It Ironic, Don't You Think?", "Thou Shalt Not Kill" and "At The Mercy Of Fate". That said, I'm not usually a fan of drabble or ficlet series, but this one has kinda taken over my brain, and you readers seem to be craving more, so...
Disclaimer: White Collar, its characters and its settings belong to Jeff Eastin and USA Network. And, guys? Your characters are not only welcome, they're wonderful. I'm just borrowing, I promise.

First there was confusion. A haze that seemed to cloud his brain, vague sensations that didn't seem to want to penetrate said haze.

It was sounds he heard first. Soft beeping, hushed voices. He moved his arm, tried to open his eyes. An involuntary sound that was between a moan and a word left his lips, and immediately he heard his name being said.

"Neal? Neal, you with us?"

Something touched his hand, someone. Warm skin. Too warm. It was too warm. He felt hot, hot underneath something too heavy that was covering him, and he moved his feet in a vain effort to kick away what felt like a thick blanket.

"Neal," the voice urged. "Neal, stop moving around, it's okay."

"Hot," he croaked in a voice that was barely his own.

"Shh, Neal, it's okay. You're in the hospital."

He finally opened his eyes, and there was Peter, his eyes intense with emotion, concern, relief. Neal tried to focus, but the haze wouldn't want to ebb. What had Peter said? Hospital? What?

"Peter," His voice was raspy from disuse.

"Yeah." The tiniest of smiles. "Yeah, it's me."

And that was how Neal knew it would be okay. Eventually.

Yep, looks like I'm on a roll. Then again, drabbles are easy to write. It's the multi chapter stories and one shots I sometimes struggle with. Guess I need to start working on my collarcorner swap fic too. I'm still in the idea collecting stage on that one...

Thanks. I think I've already got a rough idea about the general plot. If I need help, I might take you up on the offer, but for now I need to work out more details in my head. The questions may come as I work out the bits and pieces, though.

LOL. No pressure to take me up on the offer unless you need it. I wasn't sure what stage of plotting you were at. Glad you're looking set to go!

Yet again, this is awesome. I've been amazed how well the story's worked, really, just seeing snippets at different points along the way. Very well done.

Love this - but but it's not over, there's more, right? Neal has questions and stuff? Please, please?

I am eating this drabble series up like it's ice cream. I adore it. :-)
