Prison Break is currently in its 4th season, but the question that a lot of fans keep asking themselves is: Will it be the last? The reason why I'm picking this topic up now is that I just read something on SpoilerTV that Zack Estrin said to E!online.

What I mean is this quote: "It sets the table for our return in the spring—and gives a little taste of the challenges they'll face in the final eight episodes of the season."

Final eight episodes? I'm no expert, but I was always of the impression that season 4 would consist of 22 episodes. So far 16 have aired. According to my calculations, that leaves six for after the hiatus. Yes, I know, there has been talk about two additonal episodes, but I think it was communicated that these would only happen if the show was going to be cancelled this season. These additional two episodes would then be shot to wrap things up properly. Is that not the case anymore? Meaning, can we read something into the fact that Mr. Estrin said "final eight episodes" instead of "final six episodes"?

SpoilerTV also reports exec producer and PB writer Nick Santora doesn't know whether the show will be cancelled after s4 or not. That could mean he truly doesn't know, or he does and is not allowed to talk about it... We won't know until some sort of official announcement is made, and I bet that won't happen before March or April.

Will I be sad to see the show go if it gets cancelled? Sure. However, at this point, I'm going to wave it goodbye with a laughing and a crying eye. I am entirely unhappy with the last few episodes, with the direction the show seems to be heading in. I've blogged about it before.

I don't usually actively seek out PB reviews, but what I read on other people's LiveJournals and forums I visit, there seems to be a lot of discontent with recent developments. Some people aren't happy with the character development--be it Michael, Lincoln, Sara, Gretchen, Self or T-Bag. Some people aren't happy with the direction of the Scylla/Company plot. Some people aren't happy with the constant violations of the show's timeline or the introduction of new characters. Some people aren't happy with the fact that we lost at least three important main characters this season. Some people aren't happy with all of the above. Has Prison Break written itself into its own demise?

However, it's not all negative. Of course there's also fans who like all the plot twists and surprises, who can't wait to see what the writers have in store for the rest of the season. Most of the Michael/Sara fans seem to be excited about the prospect of Michael and Sara being on the run, just the two of them. Some people like the prospect of Lincoln and Michael being at odds with each other and see a lot of potential in that.

I personally don't share that enthusiasm, but there is still a chance that the show might win me back after the hiatus. I certainly hope that it will. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a TV show this much, and I'll certainly miss it if it gets cancelled.
