White Collar - "Copenhagen From The Water"

Title: Copenhagen From The Water
Author: TeeJay
[livejournal.com profile] whitecollar100 Prompt: Spring (seasonal prompt)
Genre: Gen
Characters/Pairings: Neal, Alex
Word Count: 300
Rating: PG
Summary: Neal and Alex enjoy a lovely day in spring in Denmark's capital. Pre-series.
Author's Note: Yes, this is a shameless projection fic, because I took a trip to Copenhagen in April. I love the city. I've done the canal tour too. Twice (on different trips). I'd totally do it again. And the Lagkagehuset's Flødeboller are heavenly.
Disclaimer: White Collar, its characters and its settings belong to Jeff Eastin and USA Network. And, guys? Your characters are not only welcome, they're wonderful. I'm just borrowing, I promise.

"Come on," Alex laughed, pulling Neal by the hand. "You don't go to Copenhagen without doing the canal tour. You'll like it, it's beautiful."

He didn't like overly touristy things, but he had to admit that he actually liked the idea of seeing the city from the water.

"They speak English, right?"

"Of course. We can hop off in Christianshavn, there's this amazing bakery there. You'll have to try the Flødeboller."

"The what?" Alex was totally steamrolling him here. She just laughed.

They rounded a corner and she spread her arms wide. "Voilà, Nyhavn. Now tell me you don't like it."

Rows of vividly colored, multi-story houses lined the street to the left and right, separated by a canal alongside which sailboats were anchored. Neal had to admit that it was indeed picturesque, livened up by the bustle of people enjoying the first rays of the bright spring sun at the many tables of the cafés lining the harbor.

"The boat tours are down here," Alex said, pointing to a flight of stairs that led down to the pier. "You in?"

"You make it sound like I have a choice."

"You don't want to?" She sounded almost disappointed.

He laughed. "No, I'm... I'm totally in."

It was perfect timing because one of the boats had just arrived. Alex paid for both tickets and they settled in one of the benches towards the back.

"So," Neal turned to Alex, "have you given any more thought of how we're going to get into Amalienborg Palace?"

She beamed at him. "Indeed I have. There's a reception the day after tomorrow. We will be Mr. and Mrs. Bannerman, invites extended courtesy of the American Embassy."

"Nice!" Neal smiled a winning smile. "The music box will be ours."

"Yes, with any luck, it will be."
