LJ, what's with the server issues? I'm having a DDoS attack déjà vu. Do not want! I think a lot of people are getting very fed up with the recurring accessibility issues, especially those who are paying good money to have an account here. Twenty-four plus hours to get the site back up and running is kinda borderline even in my book. And I still can't access it from my smartphone for whatever reason. I can understand why people are upset enough to quit using LJ and move over to other blogging sites. I'm not quite there yet, but I'd have to lie if I said the idea hadn't occurred to me.

Another week has gone by where I've just been too busy for proper blogging. Had a visitor over for the weekend, but thankfully she loved slouching on the couch as much as me, so that's where we spent most of Sunday, trying to get closer to our goal of rewatching The X-Files from episode 1 all the way to the end. She now lives in Denmark, which makes it kinda hard to accomplish that goal in anything under three years. However, she's taking a 2-year weekend Master's course in Bonn right now, so we're seeing each other a little more often now than twice a year. And I can happily report that we've already arrived in season four!

... I've been neglecting you. Being admin on NaviBlue really is a doozie. Well, my own fault since I dove in head first. But it's all fun -- very much so.

This is for those on my friends list interested in what the Marquette brothers are up to.

Check out what the two of them have been doing lately. )

Yay, Fanboys finally made it over to Germany! I subjected myself to the torture of watching it dubbed into German last night, and I have to say that even though the choice of dubbing voices was bad, the translation was actually really good. All the jokes worked quite well, and people laughed in all the right places.

If you've followed what's going on with Fanboys, you will know that it's being released in the US on February 06, 2009. If you didn't, well, you know now.

The thing is, the Weinstein Company chose to only release it in 40 theaters in 8 cities initially. These cities are:

::: Austin, TX
::: Chicago, IL
::: Houston, TX
::: Los Angeles, CA
::: New York, NY
::: Philadelphia, PA
::: San Francisco, CA
::: Seattle, WA

Word is that it will expand to more cities and theaters if it does well in these eight cities. We're asking you to please help us make that happen. Click here to learn what you can do to help.

I don't really have anything of substance to say today. My wrong reason for posting is that I want to use the cutest new Chris Marquette icon I made. I'm in love with that smile. And the green hair (which you can't really see in the pic). Anyone who's seen the indie Graduation will know what I'm talking about.

So, yes, I'm being a fangirl tonight. I blame Paul Scheuring because he made me rewatch some more Prison Break season one tonight. Not that that has anything to do with Chris M. or Graduation or my new icon. I'm just being random. You know, the way women sometimes are...

Have I mentioned I've met Mr. Marquette in person? Not once, twice now. And hopefully not the last time. He's such a nice guy. But, hey, I better stop right here, otherwise I'll never get away from the computer. I very badly need to crash, it's late in Germany. Gute Nacht.

Since I've been posting here about Fanboys, maybe I should give you a quick update on what's been going on. You know, just for the record. We have a release date. Okay, that's nothing new, but this time it actually looks like it might be the one. Feb 6, 2009.

Weinstein has also released a new poster (which sucks, so I'm not gonna post it here). And a new trailer. Which also isn't all that great. It's up on Yahoo! Movies somewhere (and no doubt other places too).

I've also written (another) article about the movie and its (hi)story. This one I will gladly link:

Oh, and the cancer storyline has been restored. The Stop Darth Weinstein campaign seems to have hit a soft spot and Weinstein buckled and let Kyle Newman put the cancer storyline back into the final cut. Yessss!

Here's the best part, though: I've seen the final cut. How, you may ask. I was in LA in October and we (two friends and me) were invited to a screening of the final cut. And I loved it just as much as I thought I would.

And that's pretty much it. May The Force Be With The Release Date.

As if we didn't know already that for the test screenings of Fanboys, the Weinstein Company wasn't exactly honest, but it gets better. Now Cinematical reports that they put studio plants in the audience on purpose who would encourage the viewers of the no-cancer plot to rate it higher than maybe they would have. Here, read this. I have no words:

Here's where it gets messy: Apparently, both versions were screened for test audiences -- and the new version only tested two points higher than the old version. My super delegate source also claims plants may have been in the audience -- there to pursuade moviegoers to vote against the original version -- but this has not been proven. In two days, after the old version was screened, Brill re-cut the film and they tested it again -- this time it was tighter, dirtier and contained nudity, lots of F-bombs, the whole works. And even with all that, it still only tested two points higher than the old version. But since Weinstein had to justify the fact that they spent an extra $2 million on the re-shoots, they went with the newer, flashier, Without a Paddle-esque version of Fanboys.

Don't you see just how corrupt and manipulated this all is, people? And all just to put the watered down version in theaters, and if it flops, to have the excuse of saying: "Hey, people, we only used that version because you, the fans, wanted it in the first place!" Well, I didn't want it!!!

Man, I hope they will come to their senses. There must be someone involved who's clever enough to realize what they're doing is killing the movie.

If you've heard about the movie Fanboys, you might be wondering what's going on with it, seeing how it was promoted as coming out on Jan 18, 2008 for a while. Now, before you go looking for local showtimes, the movie wasn't released on Jan 18.
